Extreme Contrast
For my final exam, I have chosen the theme extreme contrast which focuses on the differences between two areas or themes within a subject. These themes are typically very well juxtaposed especially with Giuseppe Colarusso's images where (above) you can see he takes some sort of food item and then turns it into a completely obscure and well contrasted image with a completely different, possibly dangerous, item with it.
I have created a Pinterest mood board of all the photos I liked incorporating the three photographers I have chosen and would possibly like to copy when making my shoot. In my opinion, I chose these because I thought these were the most effective at incorporating my idea of how I interpreted extreme contrast and so I thought I would get the most enjoyment and hopefully the most successful images.
Fantastic introduction, Josh! Well done!
Photographer Research
Robin Rhode
Robin Rhode was born in Cape Town, South Africa 1976 who currently lives and works in Berlin. Robin Rhode's work consists of a 2D pictures showing visual narratives of people doing a specific action. As seen below, he can have multiple photos ,almost like a GIF, together which shows a variety of movement from a solid 2D image that has been drawn on the ground. I love this idea as it greatly deceives the eye and makes something that was just shot on the ground, look like it was shot normally while standing. This is effective as you can create a great depth of different scenes that wouldn't normally be possible or just couldn't be shot normally due to the lack of requirements for the scene for example I was thinking a sky diving scene where it would look like the subject is free falling when in actual fact they haven't left the ground.
Below is my attempt of a recreation of Robin Rhode's 2D picture series. My subject is skydiving and shows constant movement
Excellent artist research section and idea for a shoot. Please enlarge some of your images, or put them all into a slide show or change the order and put into a GIF. Right now they're very small and difficult to see. After you've done that, please evaluate your results.
Dirk Bakker
Dirk Bakker is a Dutch photographer that was born in the Netherlands, in Amsterdam. He is renown for his architectural images i.e. the images below and uses a great variety of colours and contrasts to great very vibrant images following these more dull looking buildings. In some of his images, he further photoshops them together to create patterns using the buildings structure which looks very effective. I love trying to make duller images look nice or just add more colour so it looks eye catching, so in doing this I think I can make some very effective images. Theoretically, being in London, many of these buildings would be quite common or ordinary but I heavily struggled with finding buildings which would come under this series.
Giuseppe Colarusso
Giuseppe Colarusso is a Swiss born Italian artist that loves to take 2 completely random objects and places them together to create a totally obscure image. The two objects typically go together to create a different item in itself like the cactus ice cream below. Whats so effective with these images is that it takes something edible and then blend it with something not so edible which makes it quite funny. There is so many possibilities for this so I thought making a mind map for this, where I could mix and match different items and make combinations, would be the most effective. All together I realised that this shoot was very hard when I came to making up original ideas and so it made me respect Colarusso more for all the ideas he managed to muster incorporating these juxtaposing ideas.
I decided that my best plan of action was to use lego in my designs, for my first shoot I built a lego egg and a lego knife and fork so It looks like the egg is edible. Below is my shoot.
Good shoot! Please enlarge your best one and then edit it for the right colour and finally analyse it.
Where is your water faucet shoot? I'm sorry that I changed your ISO/white balance in the middle of your shoot - if it looks strange because the colours are all different, change them all to black and white.
Lastly, which is your favourite strand? Please get to work on this - your Weebly's looking great so far, but you're getting behind and there's not much time left before your exam...
